Safety Workshop for the Charlottesville Area Trail Runners

Join CATs member and ROAR TRAINING instructor Julie Morrill for a workshop on personal safety where you will learn how to keep yourself safe while running and, if necessary, fight back. The training will include safety tips, scenario discussions, and some empowering self-defense techniques. Bring your sense of humor and sense of adventure.

All under-18 participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Recommended for ages 14+.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS COURSE?

  • How to respond to violent situations;

  • Basic tools for fighting back, including: the ideal stance to help maintain your balance and get away and basic “tools” for fighting, such as punches, kicks, elbows, and knees;

  • Defending against common attacks, such as: wrist grabs, bear hugs, chokes, and being pushed to the ground.

Proof of vaccination required to attend. Registration priority given to CATs members. Event open to the public after September 14.
